Each ovary is connected to the uterus by an egg tube. Remember what we said about a mature egg being released every month at the lesson? There are tiny hairs in the fallopian tube called cilia, which aids in the smooth passage of the mature egg to the uterus.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><h5><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><b>Ovaries<\/b><\/span><\/h5><figure id=\"attachment_7547\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7547\" style=\"width: 235px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7547\" src=\"https:\/\/eschooltoday.com\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/he-ovary.jpg\" alt=\"The ovary\" width=\"235\" height=\"277\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-7547\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The ovary<\/figcaption><\/figure><p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Women (females) are born with hundreds of undeveloped female egg cells or ova (one is called an ovum). These eggs are stored in the ovaries and released every month after puberty. Unused eggs dissolve and pass out during menstruation.<\/span><\/p><p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Here a simple diagram of an ovum under a microscope.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><h5><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><b>Uterus<\/b><\/span><\/h5><p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">This bag is like an inverted pear, held in place by ligaments and muscle. It has a very soft lining, which holds the fertilized egg and nurtures it till it is a fully developed baby.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><h5><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><b>The Cervix<\/b><\/span><\/h5><p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The cervix is a ring of muscle located at the lower third portion of the uterus. It forms a barrier between the uterus and the &#8216;V&#8217;. Until birth, the baby is held in place by the cervix. During birth, the cervix expands and the baby passes through it.<\/span><\/p><p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">This is an elastic, muscular canal that connects the cervix to the outside of the woman\u2019s body. It is the tube that receives the male organ during mating.
