elementor-size-default\">What is a Chemical Change?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-95ff0b8 elementor-widget class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"p1\">Every day we experience chemical changes in many things around us. Think of a rotten orange, fried egg, rusted nail, and even poop! \u2014 all these things involved an object (matter) going through a process that can never be reversed. A chemical process (reaction) caused that kind of change.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-8981\" src=\"https:\/\/eschooltoday.com\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/chemical-change-in-color-and-smell.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"241\">We say there is a&nbsp;<b><i>chemical change<\/i><\/b>&nbsp;in a matter when the internal make-up (molecules) of the object changes. Unlike a physical change, chemical changes cannot be reversed. Changes that cannot be reversed are called&nbsp;<b><i>Non-reversible Changes<\/i><\/b>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">There are usually one or more new substances formed or created from that change. You can tell there is a chemical change when it produces&nbsp;<b><i>gas, light, smell, fire (heat), or color change.<\/i><\/b>&nbsp;A chemical change may also be accompanied by the formation of a solid in the form of a precipitate, and in some cases, accompanied by a gain or loss of energy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">A good example is a change that occurs when you fry an egg. When we light the wood up, it burns gently and after a while, it turns into ashes. As it burns, it produces heat, light, and smoke which escapes through the chimney. The heat, light, fire, and smoke are all good characteristics of a chemical reaction, which result in a completely&nbsp;<b><i>new<\/i><\/b>&nbsp;matter\u2014ashes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Note that the ashes from the burning wood have an entirely new molecular composition. It can never be turned back into wood again.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Here are 10 common examples of&nbsp;<b>Chemical Change<\/b>&nbsp;you can find in your home.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\">Baking cakes<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Rusting nails or metals or aluminum<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Burning wood\/log or lighting a match<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Exploding Fireworks<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Ripening and rotting bananas<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Digesting food in your tummy<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Mixing an acid with a base, producing water and a salt<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Baking turkey or grilling chicken<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Changing color of autumn leaves<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Milk going\/gone bad&#8230;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\">I<b>MPORTANT NOTES:<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">When we eat, our bodies digest the food and convert sugars into energy, proteins into body cells, and so on. When we breathe, our lungs absorb oxygen from the air we breathe in and use the oxygen to enrich our blood. All these activities in our bodies are chemical activities.
